Badschematic is a new netlabel devoted to unusual and challenging audio works. We are currently taking submissions for a compilation album to be released freely online in MP3 format.

If you are interested in submitting your audio please Send an email to contact-at-badschematic-dot-info
In the subject line, please include the phrase "compilation submission".
In order to be considered, your email must contain the following information :

1. Your full legal name.
2. Your geographic location (City, State/Province, and Country).
3. The artist/band name associated with the material you are submitting.
4. Links to the appropriate audio files in 320kbps MP3 format. Messages containing email attachments will not be accepted.
5. A link to your homepage.

Feel free to submit as many tracks as you like. Some tracks which are not included on this compilation may be considered for future release.

All submissions (except those containing email attachments) will be listened to and Badschematic will do its best to reply one way or the other to every submission it receives.

The new Zoom recorder

So until Zoom came out, which oddly enough looks alot like the uber Sony version that came out earlier this year, I thought I could never afford a decent field recorder.

Question: Has anyone used this? It got a great review in TapeOp but I would like some real user feedback.

newbie with a question

aloha all, i just found this tribe. names eric, live in hawaii, record mostly nature sounds (surf, waterfalls, bamboo forests in the wind, etc etc.)

i use a sony minidisc player, and now have loads of discs with cool sounds. i would like to put them on my computer for editing/burning/etc, any suggestions for this? a music program, a new MD player? just use the line in jack (noo !!!)???

can anyone help me? id appreciate it...

Echo Indigo

My boss just gave me an Echo Indigo sound card to play with. This is a PCMCIA card that goes into any laptop and offers 24bit / 96kHz bandwidth. It seems to have quite a bit of bang for the buck, especially for field recording. One drawback: it has a physical volume knob on its D/A. (What the f*&^ were they thinking?)

Has anyone else tried this card? Or is there another hardware configuration that has worked out well for you?

Mic Placement

I like to do my recording in busy places with lots of people. One of the things that I've always struggled with is mic placement. I have a set of binaurals that I clip to my headphones. This is less than subtile and I don't doubt that a lot of people know exactly what I'm doing. This kind of kills any chance of getting interesting conversation. One nice thing about clipping mics to my headphones is that it's easy on and easy off. When I'm done recording I can quickly put my mics away. I've often thought of other places to put mics that might work but I was hoping to get some tips for the others here in the group. What works best for you?
